Irish President, Michael Higgins, has spent three weeks in Spain learning Spanish.......

The President of Ireland, Michael Higgins, has spent three weeks of August in Santander to learn Spanish.

He wanted to learn Spanish ahead of an institutional trip he is to make to Chile, Argentina and Brazil.

The International Menéndez Pelayo University, UMIP, say the three week course, which the Irish President took, brings fluidity and he will be able to read and understand complicated literary texts.

Michael Higgins spent his time at the Las Llamas Campus totally unnoticed by the media.
