NAVIERA Armas has launched a new ferry service linking Motril and the Spanish enclave of Melilla. The 2005-built ro-pax Volcan de Timanfaya, will make the crossing in 255 minutes, half the time the journey takes between Melilla and Almeria or Malaga. Naviera Armas chairman, Antonio Armas, said in a statement that Melilla residents would now be able to travel to the mainland at affordable prices. The ship is 17,343gt, 143m long and can carry 1,000 passengers and 300 vehicles at a service speed of 23kt.
